Sinha is a 1987 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre. Sinha got extension days after the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha during the winter session of Parliament. According to the SPG (Amendment) Act family members of the former prime ministers would not be entitled to the coveted SPG security cover.

The SPG Cover will only be provided to the Prime Minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence. The act guarantees SPG protection to former PMs only for five years after they cease to hold the office of Prime Minister.
