New Delhi, September 23: Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi and Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh arrived at Tihar Jail on Monday to meet P Chidambaram, who is in judicial custody in connection with INX Media case. Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on August 21 and is facing a probe by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged irregularities in granting the clearance to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when he was the union finance minister.
In the last week, a Delhi court had extended Chidambaram's judicial custody till October 3 in the corruption case filed by the CBI. On September 21, Karti Chidambaram, MP and P Chidambaram's son had tweeted a letter criticizing his father’s arrest by the government and charged that no investigative agency has been able to define the ‘criminal act’. In the letter, Karti wrote that his father is being targeted for endorsing a decision taken by 12 government officers in his capacity as a minister and went on to say that no investigative agency has been able to define the ‘criminal act’.” It’s been a month since the CBI scaled the walls. Personal liberty has been denied in the pretext of a never-ending “investigation”.
On Sunday, P. Chidambaram asked his family to post a tweet on his behalf. "I have asked my family to tweet on my behalf the following: "I am thrilled to discover that , according to some people, I will grow golden wings and fly away to the moon . I hope I will have a safe landing", the tweet read.

Last week, the CBI opposed the Congress leader ‘s bail plea in the INX Media case and told the Delhi High Court that granting bail to him will not only go against the zero-tolerance policy on corruption but also set a “very wrong precedent”. In its reply filed on Chidambaram’ petition, the CBI alleged irregularities in the case amount to “betrayal of public trust at large”
