Mumbai, July 26: Internet services on mobile and wi-fi have been suspended in Mumbai's Vashi and other areas in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. People from areas including Vashi, Belapur, Nerul, Sanpada, Panvel, and Koparkhairane informed that they were unable to access the internet since 4 am on Thursday morning. They said they could access mobile data only after crossing the Vashi bridge.
According to reports, the internet will remain suspended till 12 noon on Friday. A Police official informed that internet services have been suspended since early Thursday. "The decision was taken in the wake of the situation in areas like Kopar Khairne, which witnessed violence during the Maratha quota agitation yesterday", the Police official added.
On Thursday, people in Vashi and Navi Mumbai faced inconvenience after mobile networks showed no sign of internet. When users tried to access internet on their mobile network, a messaging saying, "As per government instructions, the internet services have been temporarily stopped in your area because of which you are not able to use these services. You will be able to use the internet services once we get the directions from the government.
Even the EDC payment machines which work on the mobile network are not accepting payments which lead to a chaos at the petrol pump, tolls and several shops.

Surprisingly, this comes a day after the Maratha Kranti Morcha launched a protest on Wednesday for quota for the Maratha community in jobs and education. The outfit, however, called off its Mumbai bandh on Wednesday afternoon after violence erupted in several parts of the state.
Large-scale violence marred a state-wide protest on Wednesday by Maratha outfits. Stone-throwing and arson were reported from several parts of the state while some protesters blocked roads, causing inconvenience to hundreds of commuters.
