After facing a huge outcry over imposing charges for the web check-in for all the seats, low-cost airline IndiGo on Monday issued a clarification, in a statement, that they have not changed the web check-in practice. It said that if a passenger doesn't have any particular preference for seats and don't want to pay for advance seating selection, they can reserve any free seat available at a time of web check-in. IndiGo Web Check-In Is Now Chargeable! New Pay to Select Your Seat Policy From Airlines Irks Twitter.

“While the preferred seat pricing starts as low as Rs 100, there would be some seats that may be available for free depending on the market dynamics for the flight... If the passengers have no particular preference for seats and would not like to pay for advance seat selection, they can either reserve any free seats available at the time of web check-in or will, of course, be assigned seats at the time of airport check-in,” IndiGo said in a statement.

"This is a common practice followed by airlines across the globe. The customers can always obtain the seat at the airport kiosk check-in or counter, though this may not guarantee that they would be assigned the seat of their choice,” the airline said. IndiGo Passengers Don’t Panic for Your Cancelled Flights! Earlier, IndiGo in a response to the customer had tweeted that "As per revised policy, all seats will be chargeable for web check-in." Besides this Ministry of Civil Aviation in its Twitter handle said that "airlines are now charging for web check-in for all seats. We are reviewing these fees to see whether they fall within the unbundled pricing framework." According to the airlines, the revised policy was already initiated since November 14, but came into limelight when one of the travellers posted it in microblogging site.
