Kolkata, December 11: In a tragic incident, an IndiGo flight on Tuesday made an emergency landing in Kolkata after smoke was detected in the cabin. The catastrophic incident took place in flight operating on the Jaipur-Kolkata route. The airline said that it made the landing as a precautionary measure after smoke was detected in the cabin. The plane had taken off with 136 passengers onboard. All passengers were reported to be safe.
Passengers onboard the flight shared shocking videos of the narrow escape. The videos that went viral on social media show a thick smoke inside the cabin. In another video, passengers were seen leaving the plane. As per a statement released by the airline, “The flight landed safely at Kolkata. On reaching the bay a few passengers evacuated via the aft exit deployed slides, most passengers deplaned via front step ladder. According to a report by ANI, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation while reacting to the incident said, “Indigo flight 6E- 237 of Dec 10 on sector Jaipur-Kolkata, made an emergency landing at CCU due to smoke in cockpit and cabin. The flight landed safely at CCU. On request from Captain, aircraft proceeded to isolation bay. No injury to any passenger has been reported.” Reports inform that the incident is being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and IndiGo has been asked to submit a preliminary report after detailed technical inspection.
