New Delhi, December 19: India's overall coronavirus (COVID-19) tally surpassed one crore mark on Saturday after the country recorded 25,152 new cases in the past 24 hours. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's COVID-19 count reached 1,00,04,600. With this, India became the second country after the United States to reach the grim milestone. Presently, there are 3,08,751 active cases in the country. As many as 95,50,712 people have recovered from coronavirus infection so far, of whom 29,885 recovered in the last 24 hours. One patient had migrated to another country. A total of 16,00,90,512 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till now. Of these, 11,71,868 samples were tested on Friday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state by the pandemic. The state recorded 3,994 new COVID-19 cases yesterday and the overall tally stood at 18,88,767. The state also recorded 75 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll related to the deadly virus to 48,574. There are 60,352 active cases in the state. As many as 17,78,722 people have recovered from the lethal infection in the state.
Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases topped 75.5 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.67 million. As of Saturday morning, the current global caseload and death toll stood at 75,588,781 and 1,672,826, respectively, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 17,442,180 and 313,246, respectively. India has the second-highest COVID-19 cases in the world. Brazil currently accounts for the second-highest number of fatalities at 185,650.
