New Delhi, December 30: Days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath said that action will be taken against violent Citizenship Amendment Act protesters, Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav mentioned that railway lost property worth Rs 80 crore due to violent protests and would recover the damages from the violent protesters. Yadav's comment came a day after RPF DG Arun Kumar said that Indian Railways have lost property worth Rs 90 crore in violent protests.
Earlier on Sunday, the top Railways Protection Force (RPF) official had claimed that most of the damages took place with Eastern Railways -- mostly spread across West Bengal. Kumar even claimed that in the eastern state only, Railways loss accounts to Rs 72.19 crore, which was followed by South Eastern Railways -- Rs 12.75 crore, and North Eastern Frontier Railways -- Rs 2.98 crore. Adding more information, RPF DG said, as quoted by Hindustan Times, "West Bengal has been the worst because the Eastern Railways largely falls in the state, the total loss there alone has been Rs 72.19 crore." Among the worst divisions that were affected include -- Howrah, Sealdah and Malda. This allegedly took place after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally against the CAA. Kumar had said, "Things are much better now, it got the most violent when the West Bengal CM took out a rally. There has been no violence in Bengal after that."
Considering the number of FIRs, Kumar had said that they have identified people through the videos of the violence and had filed 85 FIRs as of yet. Making more declarations, the senior official stated that Chabua railway station in Assam’s Dibrugarh and Panitola railway station in Tinsukia district were set on fire by the violent protesters. Due to the violent protests against CAA four people died in Guwahati.
