Indian Railways Install 1st Plastic Bottle Crushing Machine in Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express
With an aim to get rid of plastics under the Indian Railways' Swachh Bharat and Go Green missions, Western Railways has installed a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle crushing machine in Mumbai Rajdhani Express, which can crush 3,000 bottles daily.
Mumbai, September 19: With an aim to get rid of plastics under the Indian Railways' Swachh Bharat and Go Green missions, Western Railways has installed a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle crushing machine in Mumbai Rajdhani Express. Reports state that this machine can crush up to 3,000 bottles daily and help the Railways clean up the mess in the compartments.
Briefing more about the latest development, the railways informed that the move is expected to reduce carbon footprints by 100 percent recycling. According to the Railways, the PET machine can crush all types of PET bottles from 200 ml to 2.5 litres capacity. Apart from this, the machine has an internal storage bin of approx 20 litres which is equivalent to 1500 bottles. For letting people known about the new move, Western Railways has also put up selfie points at Churchgate and Andheri stations.

It is to be known that Railways is mulling for a plastic ban across the country. Even plans are being considered to serve tea, snacks and meals in kulhads and other earthenware plates at 400 major stations across the country to passengers. With his initiative, Railways have taken the first move.
