New Delhi, July 26: There's some good news for Indian railway passengers, which basically means all of us because who hasn't travelled or undertaken a journey with the Indian Railway in their lifetime? The Indian Railways, reportedly, is starting a destination alert facility wherein the reserved passengers with confirmed seats will receive an SMS alert on their registered mobile numbers 20 minutes before reaching the destination or station.

According to media reports, the passengers will be provide with the destination alert on select trains from between 11 pm and 7 am. This information was provided by Rajen Gohain, Minister of State of Railways, in a written reply. The reply was in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

A ministry release said that the destination alert facility is also available through 139 and that reserved passengers have the option to set destination alert on 139 Railway Enquiry Service Interactive Voice Response (IVR), through SMS 139 with just one keyword.

The report also says that the user receives a confirmation message on the registered mobile number as destination alert call has already been set on the mobile number for destination station name.

The Indian Railways have been introducing new schemes for customers. Sarathi Seva- a service for helping old and disabled passengers was launched recently. VIKALP, a scheme to provide berths to wait-listed passengers in alternate trains was also been introduced recently.
