Dabolim, August 5: An interesting video of a MiG 29 racing against a Lamborghini at Goa's Dabolim doing rounds on social media. The video is tweeted by a retired Air Marshal of Indian Air Force, Anil Chopra on August 4. It can be seen in the video that Indian Navy's MiG 29K fighter jet racing a Lamborghini Huracan before the fighter plane takes off into the sky. The fighter jet belongs to the Black Panther squadron of the Indian Navy. The video had left netizens thrilled and puzzled.

According to a report published in The Times of India, top officials of the navy allowed to shoot the video as the Indian Navy wanted to inspire and encourage youth to join the armed forces, especially the aviation wing of the navy. As per sources, the navy was collaborating with a magazine for an exclusive story to compare the performance of the aircraft and the car. The similar race was also organised in 2014 between an Indian Air Force Su-30MKI and a Lamborghini Huracan for a leading automobile magazine.

TOI also reported that the Navy was preparing an advertisement campaign-cum-promotional video to recruit pilots in its aviation wing, and the video was part of the campaign. The Indian Navy is currently short of 91 pilots. The force has 735 sanctioned posts for pilots. The Indian Army is short of 192 pilots of the 794 sanctioned posts.

The Indian Navy is likely to issue a request for proposal (RFP) by mid-2018 for the procurement of 57 multi-role combat fighter jets for the Navy's aircraft carrier. The naval version of the indigenously built Light Combat Aircraft Tejas also underwent successful tests to check its capability to land on an aircraft carrier. India is also working to develop indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vishal which can carry 55 fighter jets.
