Kochi, March 18: Amid the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan after the February 14 Pulwama attack, the Indian Navy deployed its warships to the north Arabian Sea for operations. The Navy in a statement on Sunday had said that its “overwhelming superiority” forced the Pakistan Navy to remain deployed near the Makran coast and not venture out in the open ocean. The INS Chakra nuclear submarine was deployed in an operational role with the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier to tackle any situation. The Navy said that its major combat units including the Carrier Battle Group with INS Vikramaditya, nuclear submarines and scores of other ships, submarines and aircraft swiftly transited from exercise to operational deployment. Meanwhile, Admiral Sunil Lanba, chief of the Naval Staff will preside over the debriefing of the largest War Game of the Indian Navy, the Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX 19) in Kochi on Monday. The exercise began on January 7 and was to go on till March 10, but due to the Pulwama attack, it was extended. According to the Navy, a realistic audit of its deployment philosophy and fighting capability would also be undertaken during the Naval chief’s visit. Indian Army was also part of the biennial exercise, for carrying out amphibious assaults. During the exercise, warships were deployed from the Persian Gulf to the Strait of Malacca and the northern Bay of Bengal to the southeast coast of Africa.
