Mumbai, August 16: "A friend in need is a friend indeed" proving this proverb true, the Indian Navy on Friday, August 16, rushed to help a wounded sailor on board a Japanese warship 'JMSDF Sazanami' in the Indian Ocean, an official said. Responding to an S.O.S distress signal from the warship, the Navy launched a Sea King helicopter from the INS Shikra (Mumbai) along with a medical team.

The chopper landed on the Japanese warship, around 235 km off Mumbai and evacuated the injured crew member to the Naval Air Enclave in Santacruz. The patient was later shifted to a local hospital by the Japanese consulate in the city. Indian Navy Inaugurates 4th Edition of Annual Regional Maritime Security Course.

According to reports, the missile destroyer "JS Sazanami" was going back after two-day goodwill visit to the Indian port in Kochi. The warship was carrying 25 officers, 156 sailors and eight coast guard personnel.
