Indian Navy chief Admiral on Thursday expressed concerns over the expansion of the Chinese military a day after China released its defence white paper that laid emphasis on building a strong Navy. He also stressed on the need for allocation of more budget and resources to the force.
New Delhi, July 25: Indian Navy chief Admiral Karmabir Singh on Thursday expressed concerns over the expansion of the Chinese military a day after China released a white paper that laid emphasis on building a strong Navy. Responding to the document released by China, Admiral Singh said that the Indian Navy now had to see how it could meet Chinese expansion. He also stressed on the need for allocation of more budget and resources to the force. Admiral Singh was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the international seminar, "Nation Building through Ship Building", which was organised by the Indian Navy and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi today. During his speech, he thanked FICCI for hosting the seminar. He also laid stress on the significance of indigenous ship-building for giving boost to the ‘Make in India’ campaign. China on Wednesday released the whitepaper giving details of its spending on defence forces. According to the white paper, China’s defence expenditure increased by 9.42 per cent on an average between 2012 and 2017. According to some reports also, China’s spending a lot of resources on its navy with the aim of becoming a global power.
