Lucknow, October 17: An Indian Army soldier has been arrested from Meerut cantonment on the charges of espionage on Wednesday. The detained soldier belongs to the Indian Army's Signal Regiment. The accused was being interrogated, reported news agency ANI.

The arrest comes days after the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police arrested BrahMos Aerospace engineer Nishant Agrawal for allegedly passing off sensitive information to Pakistan's ISI.

Agrawal was arrested in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police and their Maharashtrian counterpart at BrahMos' Wardha Road facility in Nagpur for allegedly leaking "technical information" to Pakistan.

It is alleged that Agrawal was in contact with two Facebook accounts -- 'Neha Sharma' and 'Pooja Ranjan' -- suspected to be operated by Pakistani intelligence agents. He has been booked under the Official Secrets Act.
