Indian Army Refutes Reports of Chinese Intrusion in Ladakh During Birthday Celebrations of Dalai Lama

New Delhi, July 12: After reports surfaced that China's People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had entered into the Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh district, the Indian Army on Friday refuted the claims. News agency ANI, quoting Army sources reported that Chinese Army officials did not cross the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The sources said that their personnel wearing civilian clothes came in a civilian vehicle and stationed themselves on their side of the LAC in Demchok area. China Destroys 30,000 World Maps Showing Arunachal Pradesh as Part of India.

The incident was reported on July 6, after some people hoisted Tibetan flags on the occasion of Dalai Lama's birthday. In retaliation, chinese troops allegedly drove in their SUV's into Koyul village in Demchok sector, located close to the LAC. However, Army sources claimed that the 11 PLA personnel did not cross the LAC, they showed banners that read "Ban all activities to split Tibet". According to reports, the PLA personnel waited there for 30-40 minutes when the Tibetans were celebrating the 84th birthday of the Dalai Lama. India Should Encourage Bhutan for Deployment of More Soldiers Around North Doklam: Parliament Panel.

In 2017, Indian and Chinese Armies were engaged in a stand-off for 73 days in 2017 in Doklam. On June 16, 2017, Chinese troops started construction work on an existing road southward in Doklam, a territory which is claimed by both China as well as India's ally Bhutan. The Indian troops then crossed the Sikkim border into Doklam in order to stop the Chinese troops from constructing the road. The dispute was solved through a diplomatic channel.
