Indian Army Officer Proposes His Girlfriend During Pipping Ceremony At Officers Training Academy, Chennai
25-year old Lieutenant Singh proposed his girlfriend Dhara Mehta on September 8, after graduating from the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai.
Little did Army Cadet Thakur Chandresh Singh knew that his proposal to her girlfriend, on a very significant day of his life i.e. on pipping ceremony, would turn out to be a double delight for him. Not only did he became an officer in the Indian Army, but also the love of his life accepted his unprecedented proposal. The 25-year old Singh proposed his girlfriend Dhara Mehta on September 8, after graduating from the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai.
Lieutenant Singh went down on his knees to propose Dhara, and she accepted the proposal. The newly commissioned officer had planned the proposal since the day he cleared his Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. Both were in a relationship for the past three-and-a-half years. Lieutenant Singh had shown the picture of Dhara to his family three years ago. He had called his parents and Dhara for the pipping ceremony.
The couple met at St Joseph College of Arts and Science in Bangalore in 2012. Though, both of them had different subjects but had Hindi as a common subject. Singh failed in the first SSB attempt, but Dhara supported him and motivated him. He took one year to respond to Dhara’s proposal. Lieutenant Singh was commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles.
In this semester a total of 268 cadets was commissioned as officers at a passing out parade at the OTA on September 8. Cadets from Afghanistan and Fiji Islands also completed their year-long training and joined the armies of their respective countries. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna reviewed the parade and presented various awards including the 'Sword of Honour' to Battalion Under Officer Siddharth Singh, gold medal to Battalion Under Officer Raveena Punia.
