A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday after being fired by a terrorist at a post, which is 500 metres inside the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector.

This development come hours after Pakistan violated ceasefire in Mendhar and Balakote sectors in Pooch district and resorted to unprovoked firing and mortar shelling. In the attack, two civilians were injured. The mortar shelling started around 1:20 pm and continued till 2 pm. This is the first encounter in the valley since the Army destroyed four terror camps and Pakistan army positions across the LoC in an artillery attack on Sunday. The attack was a retaliation to ceasefire violations that was intended to assist infiltrators in Tangdhar sector.
