New Delhi, December 16: At least one jawan of the Indian Army was martyred amid the heavy exchange of fire with Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Jammu & Kashmir. The identity of deceased was not confirmed by the time preliminary reports emerged. "In the ongoing heavy exchange of fire in Sunderbani, one soldier of Indian Army has lost his life," said a statement issued by the military. The cross-fire was reported after the Indian forces challenged a suspicious movement by the Pakistani troops along the border.

"A suspicious movement was observed by Indian Army along LoC in Laleali, Sunderbani sector (J&K) today. As suspicious movement was challenged by own troops, initially it was retaliated by fire and then a heavy explosion took place followed by heavy firing from Pakistan," the statement added.

Earlier in the day, a jawan of the Indian Army was martyred in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Gurez sector of North Kashmir. The turbulence on the border comes amid prevalent tensions between India and Pakistan over the situation in Kashmir, with the latter moving several international platforms against the continuing clampdown on internet and phone services in the Valley.
