Indian Army Jawan Martyred in Ceasefire Violation by Pakistan in Jammu And Kashmir; Forces Retaliate, Kill 2 Pakistani Soldiers

Pakistan violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri and Kupwara districts on Tuesday. While an Indian Army jawan was martyred, two Pakistani soldiers were also killed in the retaliatory fire.

Srinagar, July 30: Pakistan violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri and Kupwara districts on Tuesday. While an Indian Army jawan was martyred in the ceasefire violation, two Pakistani soldiers were killed in the retaliatory fire by the Indian armed forces, news agency ANI reported.

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri and Tangdhar and Keran sectors in Kupwara district. The Indian Army retaliated strongly and gunned down two Pakistani soldiers, sources told ANI. On Monday, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in Shahpur sector in Poonch district by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars.

On Sunday, three civilians including a 10-day-old baby sustained injuries in the ceasefire violation by Pakistan. The baby succumbed to his injuries yesterday. Pakistan army had violated the ceasefire in Shahpur and Saujiyan sectors of Poonch district at around 5 pm.

On Jule 22, an Indian Army soldier was martyred in cross border firing in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, while a villager was also injured in another incident of Pakistani ceasefire violation in Poonch sector on July 20. According to the Indian government, four people have been killed due to ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control in the last six months.

While there were a total of 1,248 ceasefire violations, the month of March alone recorded 267 violations that claimed three lives, the government had told Rajya Sabha. In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said, "Appropriate retaliation to the ceasefire violations, as required, has been carried out by the Indian Army."
