New Delhi, September 27: A single engine Cheetah helicopter of the Indian Army crashed in Bhutan on Friday afternoon, reported news agency ANI. Two people have died in the crash said initial reports. One Indian Army pilot and a pilot from the Bhutanese Royal Army lost their lives in the incident, reported the news agency. The Indian Army pilot who died in the crash was of Lt Col (Lieutenant colonel) rank while the other was a Bhutanese Army pilot training with the Indian Army.
The helicopter was enroute from Khirmu in Arunanchal Pradesh to Yongfulla Bhutan on duty. The two pilots were-an Indian Army pilot of Lieutenant colonel rank and a Bhutanese Army pilot training with Indian Army, reported ANI.
The Indian Army had earlier confirmed that it had lost "radio contact" with the helicopter. But the single engine Cheetah helicopter has crashed, reported CNN News18. The helicopter has crashed near a mountainous area, said reports.

Indian Army sources told ANI that, "An Indian Army Cheetah helicopter crashed in Bhutan in which both the pilots lost their lives. The Indian Army pilot who died in the crash was of Lt Col (Lieutenant colonel) rank while the other was a Bhutanese Army pilot training with the Indian Army, said the reports."
Indian Army Spokesperson, Colonel Aman Anand issued a statement saying, "Ground Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was launched immediately from Yongfulla. The wreckage has been located. Indian Air Force and Army Helicopters SAR were also launched." More details are awaited on the rescue front.
