The Indian Army stated that the force is concerned for all personnel who are invalidated out of service in combat conditions or otherwise, and need additional support. It further added that the Army discourages those who seek financial gains through their disabilities.
Indian Army's Stand on the Matter:
The Army tweeted, “Over the years broad-banding and compensation awarded for disability with income tax exemption has led to rise in personnel seeking disability, even for life style diseases. The trend is worrisome that too when the security challenges to the Nation are on the rise.” The force also cited the example of Major General (Retd.) Ian Cardozo, a 1971 war hero, who never let disability to come in the way of serving the nation.'Disability Pension Taxable if Personnel Retired Under Normal Circumstances'.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also tweeted a two-page recommendation letter supporting the government's decision. In the letter, Sitharaman appreciated Maj Gen (R) Cardozo's commitment.

Congress had also slammed the government for the decision. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala while targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), called it a pseudo-nationalist party.
