New Delhi, November 20: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has once again reiterated that the Indian Army is as supportive of the disability pension as ever by saying that the "Indian Army is always for disability pension and has never taken any step for disallowing it." The Army Chief also added that deliberations on the disability pension is only for Income Tax exemption on disability component of certain categories. Speaking during the Retiring Officers’ Seminar, the Army Chief said that the war wounded battle casualties are a different category and shall be fully cared. "There are many cases who suffer health problems and debilitating strokes while being operationally deployed. Similarly such things happen to many who become physical casualties. Indian Army will take care of these people," he said.

During a recent visit to the North-East, General Rawat had also stated that the force will ensure that there is no misuse or abuse of the disability pension facility, the sources said. The force has also been working towards addressing the complaints from jawans who have been saying that the difference between the disability pension granted to officers and jawans is very high and there should be no discrimination between them on this count.
