New Delhi, August 13: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has raised concerns over the central government’s possible move to shift Aero India show from Bengaluru to Lucknow. According to a report in CNN News18, the IAF has said that the Lucknow does not match the infrastructure of Bengaluru. Although there is no official confirmation about the move, some media reports suggest that the government is mulling to transfer the event to Lucknow.
As per the CNN News18 report, IAF raised questions on conducting the aero show at Bakshi Ka Talaab on the outskirts of Lucknow, saying that it does not have required facilities to hold the show, which has always been held at Yelahanka in Bengaluru since it was started in 1996.
According to a report of International Business Times (IBT), Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj wrote a letter to Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her not to shift the Aero India Show's venue from Bengaluru. A meeting was also held on Monday by The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council to discuss the issue. The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress has also started a peaceful protest demanding that the show should not be moved out of Bengaluru.
Karnataka Chief Minister also slammed the centre for its move to shift the event to Lucknow. “Aero India is synonymous with Bengaluru, and our city has all the infrastructure required to host the show. Yet it is being shifted to Lucknow”, reported the Hindu Business Line quoting HD Kumaraswamy as saying. However, Kumaraswamy confirmed that the centre has not officially communicated to the state government about the move.
