New Delhi, Sep 5: With an aim to give travellers a world-class experience, India will soon purchase 18 bullet trains from Japan which will have 10 coaches each. According to a report by Economic Times, the purchase is set to cost India Rs 7,000 and the unique deal will also include transferring of technology for local production. An officer aware of the development informed that India will be getting 18 Shinkansen train sets from Japan and added that each bullet train will be able to run at the speed of 350 km per hour.
It must be noted that the Japanese bullet trains are considered to be the safest in the world. With the purchase of the new set of bullet trains, travel in India would become much safer. The imported trains will have automatic protection systems to ensure safety. Reports inform that the Indian Railways will start working towards setting up a bullet train assembling facility in India on a public-private participation (PPP) basis.
The first bullet train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route is expected to be used by 18,000 passengers. The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing a total soft loan of Rs 88,000 crore to India, land acquisition is one of the primary hurdles that has delayed proceedings. Reports inform that India will start the payment of loans after a moratorium of 15 years from the date when the loan was sanctioned.
According to a PTI report, the process of land acquisition in Maharashtra for the bullet train project, including in Palgarh district, would be completed by this year-end, a top official of the NHSRCL said earlier this month. He said a service road would also come up along the high-speed corridor, save some section, for the use of the general public
Talking about the fare, it would cost less than Rs 3,000 between the two cities in economy class. The trains will come with a first-class compartment and will have aeroplane-like amenities. The corridor for the bullet train will chug through 12 stations, 350 km of it Gujarat and 150 km in Maharashtra.
