India Rejects Pakistan's Claims of Human Rights Violation in Jammu And Kashmir at UNHRC Meeting, Calls Islamabad 'Epicentre of Terrorism'

Geneva, September 10: India rejected Pakistan’s claims of alleged human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir during the 42nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA) Secretary (East) Vijay Thakur Singh, termed Islamabad’s allegations as false. “A delegation has given a running commentary with offensive rhetoric of false allegations & concocted charges against my country,” Singh said on Tuesday while referring to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s speech at the UNHRC.

MEA spokesperson also called Pakistan “an epicentre of global terrorism”. She stated, “World is aware that this narrative comes from epicentre of global terrorism, where ring leaders were sheltered for years.” Speaking of Narendra Modi government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Singh We wish to reiterate that this sovereign decision, like other legislations passed by Parliament, is entirely internal to India. Vijay Thakur Singh's Speech:

The MEA spokesperson stated that progressive policies will now be fully applicable to Indian citizens in J&K, and Ladakh. Singh said, “These will end gender discrimination, better protect juvenile rights&make applicable rights to education, information, and work.” Meanwhile, Singh also addressed the concerns raised by the UN on implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

She said that the NRC is a statutory, transparent, nondiscriminatory legal process mandated and monitored by the Supreme Court of India. Singh added, “Any decision that is taken during its implementation will comply with Indian Law and will be consistent with India’s democratic traditions.” Meanwhile, Vimarsh Aryan, first Secretary MEA, also stated that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has no locus standi to comment on the internal affairs of India.

Earlier in the day, Qureshi termed Jammu and Kashmir as an Indian state. During his media interaction after his speech at UNHRC, Shah said, “India is trying to impression to the world that the life has returned to normalcy, and if the normalcy has returned than why India is not allowing international media to go into the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.” Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Says 'No Talks Until Restrictions in Kashmir Lifted'.

On Tuesday, Pakistan raised Kashmir issue in the 42nd session of the UNHRC. Qureshi alleged human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. The Pakistan Foreign Minister termed the Narendra Modi government's move to scrap special status of J&K as illegal under international law.
