CPJ's Impunity Index rank is calculated by the number of unsolved journalist murders as a percentage of the country's population. The latest report was compiled by analysing data between September 1, 2008, and August 31, 2018.
In the past decade, more than 324 journalists have been killed worldwide and in 85 percent of these cases, no accused have been convicted. Out of 324 cases, more than three quarters, which constitutes about 82 percent of these cases, took place in the 14 countries mentioned in the CJI's Index. Most of the victims were local journalists.
