India, Pakistan to go Ahead With March 14 Meeting on Kartarpur Corridor Amid Escalated Tensions

Amid increasing tensions with Pakistan, India on Thursday has shown its positive intend to go ahead with the March 14 meeting with Pakistan on finalising the modalities of the Kartarpur corridor.

New Delhi, February 28: Amid increasing tensions, India on Thursday has shown its positive intend to go ahead with the March 14 meeting with Pakistan on finalising the modalities of the Kartarpur corridor. Sources in the government told news agency ANI that the government is ready for talks. Representatives of both the countries, were scheduled to meet on March 14 to have a discussion on the Kartarpur Corridor. The proposed corridor will provide easy access to Sikh pilgrims to Guru Nanak’s final resting place Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Punjab province of Pakistan.

On November 26, India laid the foundation stone of the corridor while Pakistan did it two days later on November 28. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh laid the foundation stone for the corridor. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, its Prime Minister Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of the Kartarpur corridor. Meanwhile, in the wake of rising tensions between both the countries, Pakistan had suspended the Samjhauta Express train service to India on Thursday morning. The tensions escalated after the February 14 Pulwama attack which claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. A day after the IAF’s air strikes, the Pakistan Army Violated the Indian Air Space. In the engagement, one Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet was shot down. Meanwhile, India also lost one Mig-21 Bison warplane. After the ensuing battle, Pakistan captured an IAF pilot of the crashed Mig. However, earlier in the day, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced in the national assembly to release the IAF pilot as a peace gesture.
