New Delhi, August 15: India will celebrate its 73rd Independence Day on Thursday, August 15.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi. After hoisting the tricolour, PM Modi will address the nation. It will be the first time PM will hoist the national flag on August 15 after resuming the charge as the Prime Minister for the second consecutive term. PM Modi's speech will be telecasted on Doordarshan and its youtube channel from 7:30 onwards on Thursday.

On Wednesday, President Ram Nath Kovind also addressed the nation. Security has been tightened in the national capital and other major cities of the country to avoid any untoward incident. NSG commandoes and elite SWAT team have been deployed around the Red Fort. Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued an advisory regarding the closure of roads and diversion on Independence Day.
