The Governor, who has been accused by the state's mainstream politicians of keeping people in the dark by dismissing speculations of J&K's special status revocation as "rumours" till it was finally revoked, attempted to assuage their concerns.
Malik said he wants to promise the people of Jammu & Kashmir that their identity and status would never be abrogated, despite the revocation of Article 370.
"I assure the people of Jammu & Kashmir that their identity is not on the line, it hasn't been tampered with. The constitution of India allows different regional identities to flourish," he said.
The decisive move taken by the Centre, Malik added, are only aimed at expediting the pace of development in the region and provide employment opportunities for the locals.
"The changes that the Central Government has brought are not only historic but also open a new door for the development of the people of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh," the Governor said.
Meanwhile, internet and phone lines - both mobile and broadband - continue to remain clamped down in Kashmir Valley due to security concerns. The restrictions, however, have been completely lifted in Jammu.
