Income Tax Raids Haldiram’s Owner’s Home in Kolkata; Seizes Rs 10 Crore, Huge Cache of Jewellery
Income Tax raid at Haldiram’s owner’s house in Kolkata and seizure of Rs 10 crore, indicates towards a tax evasion of Rs 150 crore.
Kolkata, November 2: The detectives of Income-Tax department on Saturday raided 26 places in Kolkata. Based on the information, the IT officials raided offices and houses of renowned people, which include Prabhuji Agarwal - the owner of Haldiram’s. Also, the officials raided Kasera Group and Sanwaria Group owner’s homes.
Briefing more about the raids, the sleuths said that they had the information that there has been a tax evasion of over Rs 150 crore by the owners of the company. In the raid at residence and showroom of Haldiram’s on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue (VIP Road), the IT seized cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 crore. The IT department also accused Jai Bhagwan Agarwal and Mahavir Agarwal, owners of the Sanwaria Group and Anil Kasera, Rajesh Kasera and Preeti Kasera of Kasera Group of massive tax evasion.
Stating the raids began on Friday and continued till Saturday, an IT official said, as DNA reports, “We have seized Rs 10 crore in cash and a lot of jewellery. Along with diamonds and gold, as much as 80 kg of silver have been confiscated from one place only.”
