Inauguration of Pakyong Airport in Sikkim Rescheduled To September 24, PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate

The historic inauguration of the Pakyong airport in Pakyong, Sikkim has been rescheduled to September 24.

Sikkim, September 23: The historic inauguration of the Pakyong airport in Pakyong, Sikkim has been rescheduled to September 24. Earlier, the inauguration was scheduled for September 23, but now it has been proposed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it on September 24.

After inaugurating the airport at 0900 hours, the Prime Minister will also address the public at St. Xavier’s School ground, Pakyong.

Pakyong airport is located at the height of 4,500 ft above the Sea level. The airport is spread over an area of 206 acres and built with a budget of Rs 605.59 crores.

The Pakyong airport has been included in Central governments UDAN scheme. This is bound to improve the regional connectivity supporting the development of Sikkim's tourism sector.

What is UDAN Scheme?

UDAN scheme is a regional connectivity scheme, with the objective of "Let the common citizen of the country fly". The scheme is aimed to connect all states of India and development of regional airports. The term UDAN stands for "Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik".
