Srinagar, January 7: Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, on Tuesday was denied permission to visit the grave of her grandfather on his death anniversary. Iltija was denied permission to visit Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s grave, days after she was detained while on her way to meet her mother. Iltija also asked the government to remove her security after she was prevented from visiting his grandfather’s grave. Jammu & Kashmir: Five Ex-MLAs Released From Detention, Former CMs Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti Remain Detained.

Mehbooba’s daughter told news agency IANS, “I don''t want any SSG (Special Security Group) cover, it has become a pretext for the authorities for curtailing my movement.” She added, “I am now writing a letter to the police higher ups seeking the removal of my security.” Iltija also alleged that she was harassed by police officials.

On January 2, the junior Mufti was also denied permission to meet her mother Mehbooba Mufti - who is under house arrest since August 5, the day when the Narendra Modi scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir. However, Iltija had claimed that she was going to her grandfather's grave when police detained her. Mehbooba is currently lodged at a government bungalow at MA Road in Srinagar.

Apart from Mehbooba, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah are also under house arrest since August 5. According to reports, last month on the 115th birth anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah, none of his family members were allowed to visit his grave. Sheikh Abdullah is father of Farooq Abdullah
