Lucknow, January 5: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday raided IAS officer B Chandrakala's residence in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow and Delhi in connection with the illegal sand mining case of Uttar Pradesh. CBI sleuths also carried out searches at residences of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Satyadev Dikshit and Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC Ramesh Mishra. Madhya Pradesh: IAS Officer Transferred Within Hours After Getting Threats by Congress MLA Kalawati Bhuria in Alirajpur; Watch Video.

According to reports, CBI has carried out searches at 12 different locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in connection with the illegal sand mining case. At a time of the raid, Chandrakala was in her Delhi residence. The CBI has taken up the case on the instructions of Allahabad High Court. 55 People Booked for Illegal Sand Mining in UP.

As per ANI reports, "the high court had directed the CBI to probe the matter after a plea was filed alleging that illegal mining was taking place in the state with an active role of government officials".

Chandrakala has been in news in the past for her proactiveness and anti-corruption crusade. Videos of the woman Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer reprimanding faulty civic official had gone viral on social media a few months ago.

The CBI is currently investigating the charges of illegal mining in five districts of Uttar Pradesh- Shamli, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Siddharthnagar, and Deoria.
