Pune, August 21: Maharashtra Police on Wednesday issued a notice to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers in Pune under section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), warning them that actions would be taken if they are found disturbing law and order. The latest development comes hours after Enforcement Directorate summoned Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray in connection with Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) case.

Earlier, the Mumbai Police also had issued the similar notice to MNS members under Section 149 of the CrPC and warned them of strict action if they disrupt public peace or law and order in the financial capital. Thackeray too had issued a personal appeal to all his supporters and activists to maintain 'calm' at all costs. The MNS chief had stated that he was all prepared to honour the ED summons on August 22. Raj Thackeray to Appear Before ED in IL&FS Case Tomorrow, Mumbai Police Warn MNS Leaders of Strict Action if Peace Disrupted

Here's the ANI's Tweet:

Earlier, a young party activist committed suicide by setting himself afire in Thane on Wednesday morning. According to the reports, the MNS worker -- identified as Pravin Chougule -- suffered more than 70 percent burns and succumbed to his injuries before he was admitted to a hospital in Kalwe town. Party official claimed that Chougule was in a disturbed state of mind since the past three days after the ED slapped notices summoning Thackeray.

The ED on Monday had summoned MNS chief in connection with a case linked to the collapse of shadow bank IL&FS late last year. Thackeray has been accused of his alleged links to a construction company Kohinoor CTNL which had received a loan and equity investments from the IL&FS amounting to Rs 860 crore. Along with Thackeray, Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi's son Unmesh Joshi has also been summoned on Monday.
