The company plans to offer an omnichannel presence to cater to the Indian market. Ikea opened its first store in Hyderabad last year, nearly five years after receiving the government nod to invest around Rs 10,500 crore to open 25 retail stores. The Swedish furniture giant has identified two areas in Mumbai for the opening of the physical stores.

In an earlier report, Ikea has planned to go beyond the usual task of selling furniture for their Mumbai store. For example, home furnishing consultancy is a feature that the company had in mind to introduce in its store.

The online furniture market in India has become extremely competitive, looking at the rise in interest and demand of the customers. Urban Ladder, Pepperfry, Godrej and Fabindia are some of the leading players in this category, with e-commerce giants like Amazon also displaying a huge variety section of furniture on their site.
