Mumbai, February 25: In a shocking incident, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay was arrested for filming people bathing on his mobile phone. According to reports, a 34-year-old man pursuing higher education from the prestigious IIT in Bombay was arrested on Saturday for committing the crime. Police said the accused, identified as Avinash Kumar Yadav, is a resident of Thane. Yadav has been charged under section 354 (any man who watches or captures the image of a woman engaging in a private act in circumstances where she would usually have the expectation of not being observed) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). An official of the Kapurbawdi police station in Thane was quoted by PTI saying that the incident came to light after a woman filed a complain that she found a mobile phone on the bathroom window while she was bathing on Friday night.
The police informed that when the accused tried to run away, he was nabbed by other residents. A police official added saying that the mobile phone had clips of men and women, mostly residents of the same building, bathing. The report further added saying that the woman later alerted her husband who confiscated the phone. As per the complaint, the couple saw the accused fleeing from the place. Earlier this month, a 22-year-old student of IIT-Hyderabad committed suicide after allegedly falling from the seventh floor of a building on the campus. According to Sangareddy rural police, the deceased was identified as M Anirudhya, a resident of Bowenpally in Secunderabad.
