In yet another horrific incident, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was found dead in a hotel room, Jogeshwari. Amboli Police officials have found the dead body of the 22-year-old on Monday, September 3, three days after he checked in. No suicide note was discovered from the spot. As the death toll among students in India is increasing, police are suspecting that the young boy overdosed on anti-depressants tablets when they came across the pills. However, they are waiting for the postpartum reports before declaring the reason behind his demise. The 22-year-old IITB student was identified as Jaideep Swain, who hails from Chattisgarh and had recently joined the Institute pursuing an MTech in computer science. He checked-in to the hotel chain Treebo on August 31. An accidental death report has been registered to the police, and the sample of the medicine is taken to the forensic science lab to examine. Amboli Police senior Inspector Bharat Gaikwad was quoted in a TOI report, “There was no suicide note. The exact cause (of death) is unknown, but we found many tablets that are taken for depression.”
Meanwhile, the hotel management reported that Swain last ordered breakfast and had asked the staffs not to disturb him on Saturday. After failing to hear from him for two days, some guests complained of a foul smell coming from the third floor. When he did not answer the door, the hotel employees contacted the police. Swain was discovered in an unconscious state. He was immediately taken to the hospital where the doctors had declared him brought dead. The 22-year-old’s family have been informed about the incident, and they reached the city from Chhattisgarh on Monday night. Further investigations on the matter are on. The reason behind the demise can be apparent after the postnatal reports and statements from his friends, professors and fellow hostel inmates. One of the officers predicted that the IITian has bought the medication from an e-commerce site.
