New Delhi, January 17: Apart from paying extra to airlines for the seat of your choice, fliers will now have to shell out a little more to get the bags checked-in at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. As per reports, passengers will have to pay baggage fees ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 50 per flier in domestic and international flights. According to a report by TOI, the new rule will come into effect from 1st February 2019 where the Delhi International Airport (DIAL) will implement the charge on the airlines which in turn will be passed on the passengers. The airlines will be charged Rs 110 to Rs 880 for domestic flights and $149.33 to $209.55 for international flights. This is the second new charge or hike at the airport in the past two months. IGIA handles almost 1,300 flights daily. Once the new baggage fee rule in place, DIAL will get additional money which it can use for the maintenance of the airport, for buying screening equipment among other things. The TOI report further states that the fee structure for domestic flights is — Rs 110, Rs 220, Rs 495 and Rs 770 for up to 25, 50, 100, 200 seats, respectively while flights with over 200 seats will be charged Rs 880 fee. In the case of international flights, the fee will be $149.33 for narrow body and transit flights, and $209.55 for wide-body aircraft.
In December 2018, the DIAL had implemented a rule where passengers flying out of IGIA have to pay Rs 77 as passenger service fee (PSF)-facilitation (taxes extra). This had meant a hike of Rs 67 and Rs 32 per domestic and international flyer.
