New Delhi, December 20: With reports of violent incidents taking place in the country against Citizenship Amendment Act, Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Friday issued an advisory to news channels to not broadcast content that can instigate violence. The following advisory comes hours after protesters torched a car in Daryaganj and vandalised public property in Old Delhi area.

Issuing an advisory to all private satellite TV channels, DTH and cable operators, Ministry of I&B said, "Reference is invited to the Advisory dated 11.12.2019 issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for ensuring strict compliance to the specific Programmes Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the Rules framed there under mentioned in the Advisory." Adding on, the Ministry said, "It is, accordingly, reiterated that all TV channels may abstain from such content which --- a) is likely to instigate violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitudes; b) contains anything affecting the integrity of the nation and c) criticises, maligns or slanders any individual in person or certain groups, segments of social public or moral life of the country."

Reiterating that 'strict compliance to the above is advised', the Ministry made it clear that those violating the advisory might face action. It is to be known that similar advisory was also issued after Jamia Millia Islamia violence.
