New Delhi, August 14: To boost the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to implement accessibility standards for Persons with Disabilities in TV programmes telecasted by private channels starting from August 15, Independence Day. Further, the I&B ministry has asked private satellite news TV channels to air short programmes on Independence Day 2019, along with sign language interpretation, in the afternoon or evening on Thursday, August 15. The channels may make their show or can carry news bulletin prepared by DD News.
On Tuesday, I&B Ministry was given 'Special Jury Award' for its efforts to make television accessible to people with hearing disabilities. The ministry has made a robust policy to make television accessible using closed captioning and sign language.
