IAF Recommends Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman For 'Vir Chakra', 12 Fighter Pilots in Fray for Vayu Sena Medal For Executing Balakot Air Strikes
Indian Air Force announced that it is recommending Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman for the wartime gallantry medal Vir Chakra for shooting down an F-16 in Aerial combat. Also, it has recommended the Vayu Sena Medal for 12 Mirage 2000 pilots
New Delhi, April 20: Almost one-and-half months after Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman retuned to the country following the brave stint with Pakistani Air Force, Indian Air Force on Saturday announced that it is recommending him for the wartime gallantry medal Vir Chakra for shooting down an F-16 in Aerial combat.
Along with Wing Commander Abhinanadan, the Indian Air Force is also recommending the 12 Mirage 2000 pilots - who bombed terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad's training camps in Balakot on February 26 - for the Vayu Sena Medals for gallantry for their acts of bravery. It is to be known that Vir Chakra is the third highest gallantry award in the military during the times of war after Param Vir Chakra and the Mahavir Chakra.
Meanwhile, concerned for the safety of the Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, IAF had posted him from Srinagar to another important air base in the western sector along with the Pakistan border.
Informing more, a government official said, as ANI quotes, "The posting order of teh official has been issued and he would soon be moving out of the Srinagar air base to his new place of posting." The official added that Wing Commander Abhinandan could be given flying duties in his new camp.
