IAF Jaguar Pilot Drops Fuel Tanks After Bird Hit, Lands Safely at Ambala Air Base

New Delhi, June 27: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar pilot jettisoned (dropped) fuel tanks of his aircraft after one of the engines failed after being hit by a bird. According to a tweet by ANI, IAF sources informed that the pilot managed to land back safely at the Ambala air base in Haryana. Reports inform that small practice bombs jettisoned by the Jaguar aircraft were also recovered. It must be noted that due to the higher fuel consumption of the aircraft, it carries fuel drop tanks to have access to fuel supply. In 2019, the IAF has lost nearly 10 aircraft this year, the latest being an AN-32, whose wreckage was spotted last month in a heavily- forested mountainous terrain in Arunachal Pradesh. The wreckage was spotted eight days after it went missing after taking off from Assam's Jorhat airbase. In April this year, a similar incident was reported from Rolan village in Ambala Cantonment area in Haryana. According to reports, a Jaguar fighter jet pilot had dropped two fuel-drop tanks in empty agricultural fields at Rolan village after one of the aircraft engines developed a technical glitch after being hit by a bird. Locals of the area informed that they heard a loud noise early in the morning and saw a plane flying low and dropping the tanks. After the incident, the pilot had to go in for an emergency landing at the Ambala Air Force Station.
