Chandigarh, October 2: Ahead of the 86th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 8 October 2018, IAF's Garud Commando Force successfully conducted an exercise at Jalandhar's Adampur airbase on Tuesday. The Garud Commando Force, the special forces unit of the IAF, was formed in September 2004. It has a current strength of approximately 1080 personnel. The unit derives its name from Garuda, a divine bird-like creature of Hindu Mythology.

To mark IAF's 86th anniversary on October 8, an air show by various aircraft will be the hallmark of the Air Force Day Parade cum Investiture Ceremony at Air Force Station Hindan (Ghaziabad). Helicopters, Air Force Garud Commandos among others with their state of art weapons will be the key attraction of the display. According to a government press release, rehearsals for the air display will commence from 1st October 2018. The release further informs that the spectacular air display will commence with a flag bearing skydivers of famous Akash Ganga Team dropping out of AN-32 aircraft in their colourful canopies. The general area over which aircraft will be flying at low levels are Wazirpur bridge – Karwalnagar – Afjalpur -  Hindan, Shamli – Jiwana – Chandinagar – Hindan, Hapur – Philkua – Ghaziabad – Hindan, the release stated.
