Hyderabad, September 20: IKEA store in Hyderabad is in trouble again as an insect was found inside a chocolate cake brought from the store’s food outlet. The customer named Kishore tweeted on September 12 that he had found an insect inside the chocolate cake which came out while my daughter was eating it at IKEA store. He also tweeted pictures and a video of the incident. Taking cognisance, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the store.
The GHMC has also sent a team to the store to collect samples from the same chocolate pastries. “Results of the samples taken from IKEA will be available by the end of this week,” reported Deccan Herald quoting GHMC's additional commissioner Musharraf Faruqui as saying.
This is the second such incident when an insect has been found inside eatables purchased from the store. A worm was found in a biryani. Abeed Mohammed visited the store on August 31 and had food there. He posted on Twitter a photo of his plate of vegetable biryani in which an insect was found. The GHMC conducted a raid at the IKEA store and imposed a fine of Rs 11,500. However, the representatives of the store claimed that the food was not prepared in their kitchen, but was flown in from Haldiram’s of Nagpur.
Sweden-based furniture retail company, IKEA opened its first store in India on August 9. The company has employed 950 people directly and another 1,500 indirectly at the Hyderabad store. It is the first of 25 outlets planned to be set up in India by 2025. The second store would be in Mumbai next year, followed by Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR.
