New Delhi, December 12: The Supreme Court on Thursday set up a panel headed by retired judges to probe the encounter of four rape and murder suspects by the Telangana police. The three-member judicial inquiry commission includes former Supreme Court judge V.S. Sirpurkar, former Bombay High Court judge Rekha Baldota and former CBI director D.R. Karthikeyan. According to reports, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde was hearing two public interest litigations seeking an independent probe into the deaths last week. During the hearing, the Telangana government justified the killing of the four accused in the gang-rape and murder of a 27-year-old vet in Hyderabad. The state government said the accused had snatched two firearms and shot at the police.The enquiry will be headed by former SC judge Justice VS Sirpurkar.
On Wednesday, the Telangana government had set up a special court for delivering speedy justice in a case of gang-rape and murder of a woman in the Komaram Bheem Asifabad district last month.
On the night of November 27, the veterinarian was gangraped and murdered by four persons near Outer Ring Road at Shamshabad in Hyderabad. After committing the crime, the accused later dumped her body near Shadnagar town and set afire. The incident triggered nationwide outrage with the victim's family demanding death penalty for the culprits.
