Hyderabad Twin Blasts Case Verdict: Aneeq Sayeed, Ismail Chaudhary Get Death Sentence, Tariq Anjum Awarded Life Imprisonment
Two accused- Aneeq Sayeed and Ismail Chaudhary have been awarded death sentence while the other accused Tariq Anjum has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Court.
Hyderabad, Sep 10: A special NIA Court on Monday pronounced the quantum of punishment against three terror operatives for their role in the Hyderabad twin blasts case in 2007. Two accused- Aneeq Sayeed and Ismail Chaudhary have been awarded death sentence while the other accused Tariq Anjum has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Court.
Gandam Gurumurthy, the lawyer for convict Aneek Sayeed, who was awarded death sentence in Hyderabad twin blasts case, said this is a very weak judgement and he will appeal in High Court against this.
Earlier in the day, a metropolitan court had convicted Tarik Anjum who was accused of harbouring perpetrators of the 2007 Hyderabad blasts in New Delhi and other places. The punishment has been given to these convicts for their role in the blasts where two powerful explosions ripped through a popular eatery and an open-air theatre in Hyderabad.
Reports inform that the trial against five accused in the case was shifted to a court hall located on the premises of Cherlapalli Central Prison from a court located in Nampally Court complex in June this year.
Two synchronised blasts had rocket Gokul Chaat, a popular eatery, killing 32 people and leaving 47 injured, and an open-air theatre in Lumbini Park close to the state secretariat where 12 people died and 21 wounded.
Three other accused named in the charge sheets including 'Indian Mujahideen' founder Riyaz Bhatkal, his brother Iqbal, and Amir Reza Khan is absconding. Reports inform that the Bhatkal brothers of Karnataka are believed to have taken shelter in Pakistan.
