Hyderabad Shocker: Minor Girl Stripped, Assaulted With Blade by 19-Year-Old Marijuana Addict

Hyderabad, March 9: A minor in the city's Gandhi Nagar area was rescued by locals from her 19-year-old "friend", who had allegedly stripped and assaulted her. The accused was brutally thrashed by them, before handing him over to the police. The incident, reported on Thursday, sparked an uproar in the city, with questions being raised on the safety of women.

The police had initially registered a case of kidnapping against the accused, but subsequently invoked the provisions of rape and outraging the modesty of a women. The victim, identified as a 16-year-old girl, was known to the accused. Reports claimed that he had entered into a physical relationship with her, and filmed the private acts. The videos were later used by him to blackmail the girl for accepting his sexual demands.

The preliminary investigation has also revealed that the accused is a drug addict -- similar to scores of students in Gandhi Nagar area who are reportedly addicted to marijuana, colloquially referred to as ganja.

On Thursday, the victim was called by the accused to an isolated place, where he began assaulting her. Several parts of the girl's body was found bleeding as the accused had used a blade to cut at various spots. She was rushed to medical attention after being rescued.

The incident came a day ahead of Women's Day 2019, when leaders across the nation vowed to empower the female populace and create a social environment which is more secure for them.
