New Delhi, December 19: The families of the four accused in the Hyderabad gangrape and murder case, who were killed in a police encounter, on Thursday filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking registration of a First Information Report (FIR), investigation and criminal action against cops involved in the encounter. The killings of the accused were instantly hailed by people who were demanding an instant death penalty for the perpetrators, but rights groups flayed the policemen for taking the law into their hands and carrying out 'extra-judicial killings'.

Lorry workers Mohammed Arif, 26, and Chintakunta Chennakesavulu, 20, were among four suspects killed this month in a police encounter. According to reports, two suspects of the Telangana rape case confessed to nine similar crimes while they were in the police custody.

The four accused had allegedly raped and murder the veterinarian near the outer Ring Road at Shamshabad and dumped her body and set it afire. On September 29, the accused were arrested. The next day they were sent to judicial custody while cops took custody of accused on December 3 for interrogation.
