Hyderabad, September 29: Rachakonda Police arrested a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) in Hyderabad for raping and cheating a 25-year-old woman on Friday upon his arrival. The woman was also converted to Islam by the accused. According to a report published by India Today, the accused Safdar Abbas Zaidi met the woman while the two were working at a software company in Hyderabad. Zaidi hailed from Darulshifa but was settled in Dubai.

After falling in love with each other, both came into a relationship. As Zaidi went to Dubai, his girlfriend followed him as the accused promised him of marrying her. The woman even got converted into Islam after Zaidi claimed it to be necessary for marrying her. Both the families were agreed to for the marriage, and it was scheduled in April. However, the victim and his family accused Zaidi of cheating and converting her to Islam, and they lodged a complaint against Zaidi. The police have booked a case under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 417 (punishment for cheating) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The lookout notice had been issued against the accused who was arrested on September 28. Zaidi was sent to judicial custody as he arrived at Hyderabad airport.
