Hyderabad Encounter: Mumbai Lawyers Write to CJI, NHRC, Telangana HC, DGP Seeking FIR Against Policemen Who Killed Rape-Murder Accused

Almost a day the controversy over the encounter of four rape accused by the Cyberabad Police Chief VC Sajjanar took place in Hyderabad, Mumbai-based lawyers have filed a letter petition before CJI, NHRC, Telangana HC and state DGP to register FIR against police personnel -- against 'killing four accused in custody in the name of encounter'.

Mumbai, December 6: Almost a day the controversy over the encounter of four rape accused by the Cyberabad Police Chief VC Sajjanar took place in Hyderabad, Mumbai-based lawyers have filed a letter petition before CJI, National Human Rights Commission of India, Telangana High Court and state DGP to register FIR against police personnel. The written petitions have been filed against 'killing four accused in custody in the name of encounter'.

Informing about the latest development, lawyer Gunaratna Sadavarte said, as news agency ANI quoted, "Mumbai based lawyers, including me filed a letter petition before CJI, National Human Rights Commission of India, Telangana HC&DGP demanding registration of FIR against police personnel for killing 4 accused in custody in the name of encounter." Earlier, Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar on Friday headed a press conference and briefed the media about the circumstances which led the police team to take such a step. Stating the reason for the encounter of the for rape accused, Sajjanar said they (accused) attacked the police with sticks and began firing at the police after snatching the weapons, which forced the police to reply in self-defence.

It is to be known that the four accused -- all aged between 20 to 26 -- were killed in the encounter which broke out between them and the police forces at 3 am post-midnight on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakesavulu. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is yet to issue a statement on the encounter of accused in the Telangana vet rape-murder case.
